Tonya Walks

{November 3, 2009}   Starting to Walk without a Cane

Well, I’m finally practcing walking outside the house without my cane. I’ve been doing this for quite some time, normally with Sasha at my side to make sure I don’t fall, but now it’s been smoothing out. And on Friday, thanks to a tip my new favorite therapist recommended, I’ve found a little more balance. Over the weekend I actually took a walk around the block by myself. woo hoo.

I’ve got a new list of home exercises from the PT, and have graduated to walking over and around objects. My other big step is that I’m now walking independently on the treadmill, with no one to guide my foot to make sure it lands properly. So cloase and yet so far!

I’m meeting with a new hand therapist this week. Even though I’m not seeing much improvement in the ability to close my hand into a fist my massuer is telling me that he can feel the muscle starting to bulk a little bit and respond.

I was going through a bunch of my photo stuff and was thinking about how nice it’ll be to start shooting again… and wondering how much freaking longer this is going to take!

cheers
