Its 5:30 Sunday and Tonya is still in Acute Care/Post Op Recovery. Dr. Johnson visited today with his daughter Niki. Niki loved the music we were playing on the Itunes player and was dancing behind her Dad as she evaluated Tonya’s improving condition. Talk about inspiration for Tonya!

Dr. Johnson suspects that Tonya is still on track to move to the Seventh Floor, South Tower of Cedars to Physical Therapy this Tuesday. Tuesday will be 7 days after Spinal Surgery so, Tonya’s trajectory is still on the “normal” track albeit on the lower end of Normal as it is still unclear when Tonya can be released.

Today’s Highlights:

• Tonya fed her self yummy potato and leek soup from the Bagel Factory without spills. She ate a whole bowl (tonya has had little appetite to date and was able to use her left hand which is real hard for her to control. I held the bowl for her but she was able to scoop and keep each serving pretty level. She must have regained some appetite as she was eagerly spooning after about 5 minutes.
• Tonya called her sister Jocelyn on her Iphone. She used a rubber glove to grip the slim device and was able to scroll through the directory and make the call. Advanced finger mobility seems a long way off. Tonya’s fingers dont really move individually yet.
• Tonya was able to feed herself baby carrots from a plastic bag resting on her stomach showing some gripping strength betwen her index finger and thumb. very nice!
• TONYA CAN GRIP A CUP OF WATER, DRINK IT VIA A STRAW AND RETURN THE EMPTY CUP TO THE BEDSIDE TRAY WITHOUT SPILLING THE GOODS!
• Tonya’s catheter was removed!!!!

Todays Lowlights:

• Tonya could not get out of the bed and sit in the Professor X torture chair. 2 PT specialists came in to take Tonya for a cruis in the cruel chair. They got Tonya to sit up in bed. IT was too much for her. Her blood pressure dropped pretty quickly and she wanted to throw up. IOt was good to hear her curse. I am glad Tony was not hear to hear it.
• Tonya’s roommate of the past 4 nights is going back to San Jose. Penny aka MOM has been great at keeping Tonya’s spirits high and very helpful if Tonya needed anything.
